THE FUCHA BINS PILOT WITH UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM

Chatafisha pilot at UDSM where we are creating a plastic offsetting mechanism and decentralized App through Blockchain Technology. We will also be tokenizing the bins, backing them against the verified plastic credits with information stored on-chain. In the long-run we will establish a Decentralized Autonomous Organization that will enable us to transparently operate, manage and vote on different initiatives/ proposals aligned with the mission/ vision.
We plan to address the issue of plastic waste by organizing our first community project assembling and designing sustainable “smart” bins for recycling PLASTIC. FUCHA bins, short form for ‘Fedha Uchafu’, aims to change the perception of plastic as waste bh regenerating plastic waste collected from different areas into eco-bricks and sustainable cities. We will start with a pilot from University of Dar es salaam areas for starters, then as progress grows and more partnerships we can move to other areas.
The project is aiming to create sustainable smart bins piloting in Universities or close to the beach areas then grow from there. The end goal is for the plastic collected to be recycled into regenerative products, say build classrooms/ shelters, chairs or anything that can be recycled and made out of plastic for a greater cause. Chatafisha provides the mechanisms for it to happen, the process can be illustrated as follows
Fucha bins designed> converted to NFT for operations & governance> collecting plastic> verification> earn plastic credits>>on chain>>utility recyclables (e.g eco- bricks& furniture)
We believe this initiative will help reduce plastic waste in our environment and get us on our way to contributing towards our SDGs #8, #11 & #13. Data is also another crucial aspect we’ll be looking to leverage on so that we will be able to create incentives to collect and recycle plastics sustainably for organizations, individuals and the community at large.
